I think that both students and teachers were surprised we didn't have a snow day this week--but since it's the first week of the new semester, it was good to get down to business right away without any distractions. Today students had about 25 minutes to continue to work on their vocab and study questions for the short story "Harrison Bergeron". Both are posted on Moodle in case they didn't finish; all work should be in their Writer's Notebooks. I was lucky enough to get a free educational film adaptation of the short story and we watched that today--it really brought the story to life, I think. Ask your student what they thought about the film. My post title is a line from the film, which had plenty of food for thought. Next week we'll begin our unit in earnest--Tuesday students will start our next novel, Fahrenheit 451.
NOTE: for those parents who check Moodle as a guest, our course has moved to a new Moodle page. All students must log in to the URL linked here (link) and create an account; this should be done before Monday 1/28 because we'll start Moodle Mondays again. (I suggested they use the same user name and password as they had before so as to avoid confusion.) You can enter, as always, as a guest; my enrollment key is 'read'.
