Midweek it can be nice to do something a little different. Today kids had to plan (only 15 minutes!) and accurately act out a few pages of the plot in Lord of the Flies in small groups. I wanted to see their "acting" convey understanding and insight and well ... ! Our actors did quite a bit of yelling and chanting and running after a pig and away from a "beast", and we saw Piggys get punched and Simons die.
This week you'll notice I checked Writer's Notebooks again--first check this marking period (I try to do at least 2). These give you a good indication of how well your student is following along and staying on task in class. For most of the entries I checked, students had ample class time to complete the work. If any is missing there's a good chance your student socialized during our work time. Feel free to email me and I can fill you in on how well your teen stays focused in class. My email at school is llarson-doornbos@cppschools.com.
Tomorrow we'll have an in-class write on the novel Lord of the Flies. Essays will be scored mainly on content--I'll expect novel details to be accurate and student answers insightful. This is an assessment grade--I tell kids to think of it as a quiz.
