Reading and Writing and ...
Tuesday this week kids worked again with their teams, analyzing characters from our anchor text Lord of the Flies. Notes taken in their Writer's Notebook were used on the in-class write today--a way to both encourage students to work together, take good notes, and use specific story details in their written response.
This is also a good time to mention that students will be finished with their reading of Lord of the Flies on Monday. At that time they should also bring a self-selected book to class. It can be fiction or nonfiction. The only stipulation is that the reading level is appropriate for high school students--so a young adult or adult book. I have a cart of books kids can borrow from, or they can use the public library or purchase a book. And I'm always willing to give suggestions.
