Timed practice
Today's ACT practice focused on the English portion of the test. Students are asked questions related to grammar, mechanics, and style. None of the material is new to students if they've been at CPHS since freshman year--however, they do need to recognize errors in a passage and choose the correction. I kept them to the ACT time frame today, even though it's fast--roughly 8 minutes to read a passage and answer 10 questions about the writing. Whew! Today I explained why each answer was correct and encouraged students to try to figure out the way the test asks (and answers) questions. We'll continue later this week with reading and writing practice.
