Happy Homecoming

Each September, ELA teachers take a baseline writing sample from their students so that we can more effectively plan instruction, monitor students who need extra help, and assess college readiness. Today was that day in my ELA 11 classes. Students had the hour to write and my instructions were to give me their best writing based on what they know about good writing and essay format. I'll score them using the English department's holistic rubric and we'll follow up later in the winter with post-instructional write. It's my expectation that these initial scores will be quite good--this year's junior class is quite strong academically. Even with homecoming festivities only hours away, your teens wrote diligently for the hour.
