Open for business
With a full six days behind us students should be getting into the rhythm of class and adjusting to the idea of school! Today we shared note taking from yesterday (students are actively using their Writer's Notebooks now) and read a short biography of Eudora Welty. I gave them a taste for the timed reading that is so difficult for so many on the ACT--5 minutes to read two pages. We'll work this year on reading a lot of non-fiction and increasing reading speed. Students also had a reading strategy to help them determine the main idea of each paragraph. As always, they had about 20 minutes to work--in addition to the reading and text mark-up they also could have worked on their personal vocabulary. Just a head's up--some are not on task and will start to fall quickly behind. After tomorrow I'll have four grades recorded.
