First week

Today students read a story by Eudora Welty, "Why I Live at the P.0."--I started off with a read-aloud and they finished the reading on their own. I gave them a reading strategy to use for the story which will help them understand the characters more fully. Each week they will also choose 5-10 personal vocabulary words and I suggested this short story might contain some words they would want to define. I try to give students time to work each day--I know they have busy lives! Some kids will use this time; others will socialize. At the beginning of the year, I give more frequent reminders about using time wisely.

I also am in the process of checking to see if students have signed up for my Moodle course, have created their Gmail account (1st hour only), and have their Writer's Notebook in class with them.
