ELA 11
The hour began with an activity asking kids to think about being marooned on an island--what problems would arise? What would you miss about your present life? What does it mean to be "civilized"? These are only some of the issues characters must face in our last book for the year, Lord of the Flies. Each hour also started taking some background notes on the novel and author--we will finish these tomorrow. Both activities were recorded in students' Learning Logs which I returned at the hour's beginning. I'll start grading short story quizzes tonight, but it will take a couple days to finish. Tomorrow, we'll start reading!

As promised, I looked over the calendar and made some revisions. I'll go over them with kids today--the biggest change will be that they complete the multi-genre response to literature independently. It is a very manageable project and I added a few computer lab days to help out. Today we looked at a few chapters of Silas Marner together and tomorrow ... reading quiz!
