Beyond the page

ELA 11
Tuesday and Wednesday this week students are in the computer lab working on a synthesis essay. They will find a theme related to all three works (Fahrenheit 451, "Harrison Bergeron", Wall-E) studied this marking period and write a focused essay with supporting details from our reading and viewing. The graphic I posted here provides a fantastic representation of the process of synthesis--students add their own experiences and ideas from the reading to write about a belief they hold about life or  human nature.  As always, this essay will be shared on Google docs; the final due date is Monday, March 21.(It is my intention that students draft their essays in the lab this week and work on revision at home.)

AP Language
Students will continue writing their narration today in the computer lab. I looked over each draft turned in yesterday, provided some feedback and critique, and will do the same with today's additional paragraphs. Tomorrow is another day in the lab and by then kids should have a great start on their researched argument. I will conference and continue to look over students' essays as many times as they like before the final due date, April 14.
