ELA 11
Students began the short two-week poetry unit which will include reading and writing poetry, as well as reciting a memorized poem next week. (You should encourage your student to choose the poem as soon as possible so they have plenty of time to prepare; use <poetryoutloud.org> for choosing poems.) Today and tomorrow students will work on defining poetry terms using the classroom set of lit books; we will also look at the form of a Bio poem and they can begin drafting.

Book talks started in earnest today! We heard about Kafir Boy, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and Three Cups of Tea--kudos to Alicia, Michael, and Jade.

Staffers are continuing to work on planning and interviewing for their 2nd spreads, and are also making revisions on their first. I am working with any staffers who need help with polishing those first stories. You may notice a low grade for Spread II--until revisions are made, I hold the grade so that staffers get this revision out of the way as soon as possible. If they are using class time wisely and also working at home, this will only take a couple days and shouldn't impact any eligibility. Unfortunately, most staffers visited Friday and today, rather than working, and have few errors corrected.
