Day 2

ELA 11
Students continued to practice the English and Reading sections of the ACT. I thought it might be a good idea to highlight some additional ways for students to prepare for the ACT if they are interested. Attending an ACT prep workshop always helps students feel more confident--CPHS held one a few weeks ago, and may hold another one in February (contact Mrs. Gina McCambridge in the Guidance Office for more info). These workshops cost around $35 and students will receive a prep guide as part of their materials. Prep guides/study manuals can also be found at local bookstores and at Amazon.com. I pictured one I use on yesterday's blog post. I've found that, generally speaking, the guides are all fairly similar; some come with a CD for extra practice. The prep guides are nice because students can work through the practice material at their own pace.

AP Language
We had our first Book Talk today-- A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. A hard read and our presenter Dustin did a great job! EVERYONE now has a rubric, which should help the rest of the class (my mistake).

Yearbook
Spread II deadline is today. Let me explain how grading works. Students will receive a letter grade (assessment) on this deadline, but most will need to continue to work on their spreads--if you see a low grade, do not be alarmed. I enter the grade, but staffers are required to continue to make corrections, and doing so also improves their grade. Most final grades for spreads are an A or a B--but that may be two or three weeks along!
