Part I: What can I do to get a better grade?

Tomorrow night we hold our last conferences of the year. Hard to believe, isn't it? Next year your student will be a senior ... and after that, moving out into the wider world.  Yesterday I had kids  ask themselves the following questions if they are dissatisfied with their grade in ELA 11. I would encourage you to ask them the  same questions yourself and use their answers to help them focus on what they need to do in class as the end of the year closes in. If you plan on attending conferences, please feel free to bring your student with you--they are a critical part of any conversation we might have about their progress.

·         Did you take advantage of the quiz corrections? (study questions for quiz 1 and correct & reflect for quiz 2)

·         Are you on task on Moodle Mondays? (Many students "missed" a quiz that was work during lab time on 2/11; others are distracted by the Internet)

·         Do you follow the directions handed out in class and posted on Moodle? Or do you just guess what to do?

·         Do you study for vocabulary quizzes?

·         Is your handheld technology distracting you? (I have an astounding number of students who chat, text, and game throughout the hour--despite being asked to put their handhelds away)

·         Do you use class time to work on assignments and/or get help or do you socialize?

·         Do you ask questions in class or come for help outside of class if you don't understand the class content or an assignment?
