Time to shine

spite@openclipart.org
While the qualities of good writing are fresh in students' minds (see Tuesday's post), I thought another in-class write would allow them the opportunity to shine! Today their prompt was to write on one of the novel's themes (link).

Yesterday's classwork was pre-writing (or at least pre-thinking) and students could use their Writer's Notebooks and their books for today's write. Unfortunately, after 2nd hour it became clear that many students did not follow directions yesterday or finish their assignment last night and so felt unprepared to write the essay. While that did make their life a little more difficult, because students have worked with theme for several years in ELA classes, every student could have and should have written the essay. Since students wrote on Google docs, you can ask to read their essay because it's saved in the Cloud. We're taking this in-class write one step further--kids will revise their essays next Moodle Monday (and for homework next week, if needed).
