GOAL!

One of my goals this year for my students is to have them practice weekly (and more!) with non-fiction texts. I've modeled and guided them through annotations and am getting ready to have them do this more independently. To annotate well, student readers need to label main points in the margin, as well as underlining the supporting details. Reading "closely" in this way will help students improve their comprehension--IF they use class time wisely and engage with the text.

Unfortunately, some students spend the hour talking and goofing around--if you have a student in my 2nd hour you'll notice that I collected their annotations and recorded a grade (0-5) depending on how much they got finished in class. A 0 or low score means little was done--you can assume they were not on task.

Tomorrow--typed draft of the This I Believe essay is due.
