What can I do?

[For more information see Wing Institute here]
This data, published on the Wing Institute's website, is telling--the more kids read, the better readers they become. I'm often asked what parents can do to help their teens become better readers. It seems as though the best answer might be simply, "Read"! Students who increase the number of pages they read show improvement in reading test scores, plain and simple.  In class we practice a number of reading strategies, we annotate Articles of the Week--it's our job as teachers to help kids with the more "technical" aspects of reading. This year we'll dedicate each Friday to Sustained Silent Reading--try it at home!
