To summarize ...
We are working quite methodically on summarizing and paraphrasing. Both skills are invaluable for all academic reading and research. Today I showed students a model of detailed annotation. Detailed annotating means a summary is already half done--or at the very least sketched out. Paraphrasing details from each paragraph adds support. I posted the example of good annotation on Moodle for kids to use as a resource and I will add another student example of solid summary later this week. Next week students will need to write the summary for their oral argument and this skill will come in handy.
