ELA 11
We're heading into the last full month of school and into our first reading check for Lord of the Flies. I took questions before the quiz, since we haven't yet had much time for discussion--but today's quiz is a pretty straight forward reading comprehension check: Do I understand and remember what I have read? Students didn't have many questions, and the grumbling was that some hadn't read past Chapter One.
This might also be a good time to mention that student absences do not mean quizzes and/or assignments are excused. The calendar is posted on Moodle (and in the classroom) and I put due dates on the daily agenda. If a student is absent, but the reading was already assigned, a quiz (for example) is still taken on the scheduled date. Tomorrow is our weekly vocabulary quiz, moved because of my absence last Friday.

We spent some time going over the Silas Marner quiz today--if students want to improve their score they can earn back points by making corrections during seminar. Great opportunity! We also decided to forego tomorrow's Socratic Seminar so that we can spend some time discussing the novel and kids can bring their questions. We'll resume our agenda on Wednesday with a quiz over Ch. 12-16.
