Staying the course

ELA 11
Students chose their short stories for reading and study over the next two weeks. The list of short stories and assignment requirements are posted on my Moodle class. Kids have very little opportunity for choosing literature in our ELA 11 classes, and this will provide them with the chance to choose their reading. I also entered grades for the Glog projects in my 1st and 6th hours; 2nd hour will be entered later tonight. If you wonder whether or not your student is staying on task in class, check out the "Learning Log" grade on Skyward. Points are given  for completion--I simply count the entries! A low score would indicate a student is not always completing work during class in the time given.

AP Language
Today we spent some quality time with George Orwell and his classic essay "Shooting an elephant". As always, students came to class with the essay read and annotated--a process that might have taken an hour of homework time last night to be able to analyze the text sufficiently. Sadly (?!), I handed out what will be the second-to-the-last calendar of the year--it's hard to believe my seniors are almost graduates and my juniors almost seniors. Keep in mind that Thursday is the all-important research paper due date.
