Wrapping up

ELA 11
I offered students the opportunity today to revise their research papers if they were not pleased with the grade. In fact, I encouraged everyone with a C or lower to revise; this is a skill that should be solid by 11th grade so that students can move on to the more difficult research skills required as a senior and in college. The process will not be quick and easy, however. Students will need to conference with me first and revise their work carefully.

We also looked over the quiz answers from yesterday. If students want to correct their quizzes, they can do so during seminar--they will find the page reference and sentence(s) on the page where the answer can be found. I already had four students start this today! (I'll give back .5 for every correct page reference.)

We went over the motifs students worked with yesterday in their small groups and added one more for them to find examples of on their own. With such a full hour there was only time for 15-20 minutes for reading--students should be through page 93 by tomorrow and they are to complete a double entry diary for their class reading today or their reading at home tonight.

AP Language
Well, I had good intentions, but I'm sorry to say that the Henry V tests will not be entered by noon. I'm still catching up on grading from students absent over the past few days. But on a good note, today we begin the second research unit. I will give students an overview of the assignment today and then they will spend the rest of the hour--and tomorrow--reading through periodicals I have, looking for an issue that grabs their attention. We also reviewed the calendar so that students would get a feel for how the unit will play out.
