Count down begins ...

ELA 11
Today students had their last ACT writing practice before the MME--and the prompt fits beautifully with the themes in our Fahrenheit unit: is it better to live for the future or the present? In just ten days, all juniors will take the MME; one part of that test is the ACT + writing. In ELA 11 students have been given an overview of the English, Reading, and Writing portion of this test, along with practice opportunities. We talked about test-taking strategies and scored student models to get a feel for what is expected on the writing test. In addition, the ELA department has structured our grammar and writing instruction (grades 9-11) so that we cover all of the content on the ACT. Next week I'll share with students their ACT writing score.

Reading day! We never got to begin looking over the periodicals yesterday, but today is all about reading and thinking. I gave each student their March calendar and we are off and running towards the end of the year. I also graded Henry V tests. Some scores were quite low--I am thinking of how and when to do correct and
reflects for students who are interested.

Happy Mid-Winter Break on Monday! While the temps will get colder again, the weather this week has been a welcomed change.
