... or how to get back on track after two restful snow days.
ELA 11
Today we went over the unit outline so students would know how to plan; everyone should have printed a calendar for reading assignments, quizzes, etc. I passed out the novel Fahrenheit 451 so students can begin to read if next week is busy. Learning Logs will be very important this semester! Today's homework, though, is to finish a short story by Kurt Vonnegut, "Harrison Bergeron". A very bizarre short story, it is a great intro to the idea of satire and dysopia, two literature terms that will direct our third marking period reading.
Students seem to have had innumerable computer issues the past couple days, and although the research paper was due yesterday on Google docs, I will accept them through the end of the school day. (I've told kids to pop in to the computer lab during lunch to share their docs; Mrs.Virkstis, the G.O. secretary, knows via an email that their requests to use the lab are legitimate.) Remember, students had FIVE class days to type the essay (that is not including the writing which was the week before), so there should have been little left to do over the snow days--IF students were on-task in class. Unfortunately, for many kids Bubble Struggle and other games took precedence.
AP Language
We are a bit farther behind, and hurried to begin Act III today. Students took the summary quiz for III and then were assigned a section of the Act to break out for the class on Monday. Vocab 11 quiz was moved to Monday to accomodate time constraints.
Yearbook
Some teams went out on interviews today; other teams are ... ? The deadline for these panel spreads was moved to Friday Feb. 18, and students need to be ready to go with their sidebars.
