Tom Hanks' 2000 movie
Castaway pairs well with
Lord of the Flies. Today we watched two short film clips and brainstormed the qualities that Hanks' character Chuck demonstrates: determination, initiative, persistence, etc. All are qualities the boys in
Lord of the Flies need to exhibit in order to survive. Unfortunately, these are young children, alone and without an adult. Next week Monday we'll watch another short clip and make further connections. Tomorrow we'll do 30 minutes of reading and 20 minutes Learning Log work.
AP Language
Yesterday students decided they needed large group discussion of
Silas Marner. The "discussion" was more me reading passages than anything else, but I hope students found the hour helpful. Tomorrow we'll have a quiz on Chapters 12-16; Thursday is a reading day.
