Check scores for the last reading quiz (Ch. 4-6). Many were quite low. For this next reading assignment, I am requiring that every student who scored below a C on the Ch. 4-6 quiz complete the study questions for Ch. 7-9 before they are eligible to take that quiz next Monday. I suspect many students aren't reading or are relying on Sparks Notes for their "reading". While study aids can be very helpful when reading classic texts, they can't substitute for the reading-- at least not very successfully. I've given students plenty of ways to ask questions if they are struggling. They can post a question on the Moodle forum or on the E-board in my classroom if they'd like to remain anonymous. I also ask at the start of nearly every day if students have questions about their reading. Students had over 30 minutes today to begin reading and working on the questions. You can check to see how far your student got by checking to see how many study questions they answered.
I'm also doing round-two grading of the PBL proposals; the re-do is due no later than Thursday Dec. 5 at the beginning of the class hour. Students have the opportunity to talk to me today (and also tomorrow) about their grade on the proposal. Hopefully I can clear up any confusion.
