I'll probably post one more time before year's end--and, guess what? You've got a senior! Today kids handed in their last project, a scrapbook following themselves and a character from A Raisin in the Sun. They also completed a reflection and self-graded evaluation (link) before handing in the project. And, again for the last time this year, they annotated an Article of the Week (link). I'll be checking to see that they can pull out the main idea of a section of text and underline the supporting ideas. This is an area of weakness for our students at CPHS when they test.
Next week, we'll spend time watching another version of Raisin in the Sun, the 1961 film version featuring the original Broadway cast including Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee. The production is different in tone from the latest film adaptation for TV which features Sean Combs as Walter Lee; Combs also directed the play. I'm always surprised that most students prefer (the acting anyway) the older version--Combs isn't exactly a polished actor and it shows in the made-for-TV movie, as some reviews indicate (link)
