Diving in

A good start to the week! Today students chose a second short story to read; then they read and prepared for small group discussion tomorrow. Each student has an assignment to have ready to help the discussion group dive into the story more deeply. We will study the literature we read this year in small groups, which is a best practice in ELA instruction.

Last Friday students drafted a response to our focus for the nine weeks: How can stories shape our lives? They were to make as many connections as possible between the stories we've read in class, articles of the week, their personal experience, historical people and events, movies, books ... the list is endless! I look forward to reading the kids' connections--which will also be fuel for their marking period project. (But more on that to come!)
