Heads together

ELA 11
Students worked in small groups today to accomplish two tasks: they were to help each other answer questions about the novel and take guided notes for Monday's in-class write. In the first task, students first wrote down questions they had about their reading and asked their small group for help answering. The second task involved students discussing five topics I gave them; they were to jot down as many ideas as they could, along with support from the text.

For both tasks (and really for all our work with literature) students are to go to the text and include page references--when we write about and discuss literature, page references are like showing your work in math class. As always, some groups worked very well together and stayed on task; others spent the time socializing. Unfortunately, students who didn't make use of the time will be at a disadvantage on Monday when we have our first in-class write. The writing prompt is based on the small group guided notes and page references are required--while students may use their Learning Logs, they may not use their books.

AP Language
Today we watched the great battle of Agincourt in Henry V and began discussing Act IV: 4-8. Homework is to read p. 49-52 in the play for Monday in addition to continuing adding motif references and working on the essay and memorization.
