I often inadvertently call my room "home" when I'm in the hall, office, or Media Center (as in, "I'll check that for you when I get home.") and after being gone for three days, it does feel good to get back "home". A little crazy, maybe ... but good.
ELA 11
We watched a great video clip that I saw last Friday on the PBS Newshour about rap as lyric poetry. If you'd like to take a look, here's the link: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/ I touched base with the kids on due dates and took whatever questions they had. Then it was on to listening to poetry recitation. Most kids did a great job and I do take into consideration the "nerves" factor!
[Later in the day there was a rash of quickly cobbled together "props"--one of the requirements for the assignment. Anything sketched on notebook paper, folded quickly into a shape was not given credit for a prop. This was not an exercise in improv, but was supposed to have been a expressive recitation with a prop that added meaning to the "performance". However, the points lost for not having a prop was not great--kids with no other issues went from an A to an A-, and won't have a significant impact on their overall grade.]
